(The Search For The Abraham In Me)
written by and starring
Laurence Luckinbill
In the words of Laurence Luckinbill:
This is the story of how “Larry”–a fellow I know fairly well and am still trying to know better–happened at a somewhat advanced age to come upon a strange book called the Bible, and opened it and began to read–and how what he found there confounded and confused him–and how a kind of Disney miracle seemed to happen–and “Larry” heard upbeat music and funny voices and saw animated characters such as he had not seen since his childhood spent hiding from a chaotic alcoholic household at the local movie house in a backwoods Ozark town.
And how a discovery was made by “Larry” which changed him into a character in the book. And however unbelievable you may find this fact, that changed “Larry’s” life.
And the Bible–instead of being some kind of foreign, dangerous-in-the-wrong-hands weapon, began to transform into a beautiful epic poem beaten out of the rocks and sand and blood and sweat of the humans who dared to inhabit this earth of ours thousands of years before the Common Era–and to pour out metaphors like libations–gifts–that if only the right key could be found–could explain our own existence here in this strange land WE now inhabit, from then to now, and forever. There are discernible parallels–even a parallax view one could say–depending on the POV of the observer–that seem to get us nearer to God–or whatever you want to call It–the stars, or the icy night of limitless empty space.
There is a mystery at the heart of this story–and “Larry” came right up to it, and tries to “explain it all for you”–like Clarissa on television–which I watched religiously with his young daughter, who now explains “it” all for me.
There is no music and no animation in this production. This is the Poor Theater. Only words. But, as the Bible teaches–WORDS MATTER!
